The restoration of the Shrine will see a recreation of Our Lady as depicted in the original stone statue which was carved in the region of 1380-1390.
The focal point of the shrine will be a statue (based on the original fragment) and will be mounted on a stone corbel to be positioned on the wall where the original statue is believed to have been. The floor is to be tiled with hand-made tiles as would have been used in this period. The original tiles would have been made in a tile factory in the parish in Tanner Row. Reproduction tiles are to be made to the designs which we know were used at that time in All Saints.
The Shrine will become a place of national pilgrimage in honour to the appearance of Our Lady in 1421 and a perpetual flame will burn in front of the statue.
A model of the statue is shown above, and a design showing the layout of the tiled floor is also shown below.
An appeal has been launched to raise £25,000 for the main work to be completed; the statue carved from wood and painted in traditional colours, and mounted on a carved stone corbel will cost £15,000 and the tiling of the floor will cost a further £15,000.
