The Latin Project
Nicholas Blakburn came to York in the late 14th Century. By 1432 he was one of the city's leading merchants, holding Crown Offices and being Lord Mayor. His will displays not only his civic position, his wealth and his concern for the city's trade , but also charity, piety and concern for his extended family, and his servants. The famous windows which are in All Saints Church North Street are a fitting tribute to this merchant.
The documents contained in this book are transcribed in Latin, with facing English translations and full notes. The Latin Project is a Continuing Education group organised by York WEA, with the support of the Centre for Medieval Studies, University of York.
